French Quarter Fest
So we went to the French Quarter Festival yesterday. It’s a free, outdoor music festival that takes place on many stages all around the Quarter. We really planned to go out and see my friend’s band Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, but it was fun to walk around and hear/see everything in the quarter while drinking and eating.
The cool part of the day was that I saw so many people that I know from high school (and don’t often see). Because I love dropping names, here they are: Booth, Niquette, Chappell, Abby, Phillip, Taylor, Jon, Mark, Jeffrey, and Miriam. Of course I saw Emmeline, but since I had planned to spend the night out with her, she doesn’t count as a surprising ‘guess who I saw!’ I even saw some of my brother’s friends from med school.
No offense to everyone just mentioned, but the most interesting person that I saw last night was Jude Law. We were at a late-night Johnny Sketch concert and he walked into the bar and watched for a while immediately behind me. It was so cool just to hear him talk.
Before I end this post, I want everyone to know a little about Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. They are a young funk/rock band from New Orleans, though they are big enough to be represented on iTunes. They are really good and very versatile. Their newest CD came out on Friday and it is very worth owning (though it’s not on iTunes yet). They are a fun live band, so you keep them in mind if you’re going to the Jazz Fest — they open for Galactic and Dave Matthews Band on April 30th.
