Foot-Americain

The French were nice enough to televise the Super Bowl on France2. It’s terrible. They have no clue what football is. They had to expain what a Seahawk is. They talked through the entire national anthem.

It is so funny. Basically they have the feed from ABC and are dubbing over the English version. They are showing clips from the year of the NFL and the announcers are trying to explain the game of football. “That was a throw for a touchdown, which is a score in American football, magnificent.”

It’s funny but unbearable. I really can’t watch more. It would be better with the TV muted. Very few of the football terms translate to french, so it’s almost like speaking in Franglais. It would also help if the announcers knew anything about football. They also have crappy French commercials, but they only show them a quarter of the time – they either have really boring shots of huddles while ABC is on commercial or they go back to their Paris studio where they have one french football player and many tiny, plastic, American flags. I guess I’ll just have to watch it on Tivo when I get home.

Ahhh Paris

Bookstore.jpg

I have three explanations for this bookstore:

  1. The Children’s book business is so good and busy that stores must place books upside down to slow down demand.
  2. There is an upside-down book reading movement in Paris that is headquartered in this bookstore.
  3. They’re turning the book industry on its head.
