Dolla’ Bill Jefferson
It’s awesome that our state is re-electing a congressman that is about to be indicted. I’m sure it will really make our whole state look really good to the country. This, of course, is the congressman who is not on ANY subcommittees anymore because he is the first congressman to be kicked off of them. I’m not sure what he’s going to do with absolutely no power.
Just to clear one thing up, I did not vote today because I’m not in district 2. The second district is beautifully drawn up to capture the poorest, least educated population of Orleans and Jefferson parish.
What’s amazing is the people that have endorsed Jefferson. Generally it’s a who’s who of the people that are destroying our city (and country). My favorite public servant, C. Ray Nagin. Incidentally, if Nagin or someone close to him is reading this, we’d love to have a mayor in our city, so now would be an excellent time to actually return to the city and do your job. Another group actively campaigning for Jefferson is the labor unions. I love them.
Perhaps the thing that killed Karen Carter was the fact that Sheriff Harry Lee encouraged voters to vote for Jefferson. Unfortunately, the constituents described above vote for whatever the Sheriff says.
The best part of tonight is listening to the Democratic supporters of Jefferson. Some of these representatives have even graduated from high school (NO public school level). It’s unfortunate that these people will never be put on any national broadcast.
Listening to Jefferson speak, I can’t help thinking that the next phrase he will shout is, “I’m rich, bitch!” What a wonderful world.
No commentsStreetcar
Walking in the CBD to get lunch this afternoon, I looked up to see a green streetcar. It filled me with a little Christmas cheer to see it decorated with the traditional greens and wreaths. Although it took me at least 10 seconds to realize that I was walking on St. Charles Ave, not Canal.
I know to most people this means nothing, but I’ve been waiting for streetcars to return to St. Charles for 15 months. I don’t know if they’re letting people ride on them yet or how far down they will initially roll, but it feels really good to see them on the avenue again. I can’t wait to take a ride.
